FLC Quang Binh Beach & Golf Resort, Ocean Dunes

Ocean Dunes is second of ten courses designed by Schmidt-Curley Design at the FLC Quang Binh Beach and Golf Resort development close to Dong Hoi, on the coast of the East Vietnam Sea. The course plays nearer to the sea than its brother Forest Dunes, though they share a clubhouse.

The site is entirely white sand with six kilometers of coastline, and primary interior dunes which provides as much as 40 meters in elevation change. Much of the Ocean Dunes Course uses the pre-existing landscape of dunes and scrubby native grasses. As such, Ocean Dunes is one of the most natural courses in Vietnam.

The entire course emphasizes views of the East Sea. Elevated tees and greens give phenomenal ocean views from most of the holes. Hard fairways promote long run-outs, which help in scoring. Waste areas line the generous fairways, but without native trees, the fluffy dunes are hard to make good ball contact. Greens are large and often have large cut-outs across the centers. While this promotes good drainage, it makes greens-reading critical to holing out in two strokes or better.

As with many courses close to the sea, wind can be a significant factor at FLC Ocean Dunes. Keeping the ball low helps control shots and also take advantage of the hard fairways.

FLC features a massive ornate clubhouse and grand resort on site. Ocean Dunes is part of a golf destination including villas, beachfront, and conference facilities. The town of Dong Hoi is nearby, but most visitors would do well spending a few nights at the FLC Quang Binh Beach and Golf Resort.
